I did not read the comments (which really I should have so I did and wow is that tutorial daunting and I will push to soften and provide basic intro) but the normalization in my experience is do not compare apples to oranges - if both plots normalize to unity (1.0) you are OK in quantitative comparison, if not, can compare peak locations but not peak heights.
