Hi Esther,

You probably need to pass it the filesystem type, as the error suggests.
The option will depend on how the usb drive was formatted, but I suspect it
was made for Windows. In that case, try:

> mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/external

If you do a "man mount" you will get all mount options.
