when I tried that last time, I got an error, since the MKL libraries
seem to contain a libvml.so, but no libvml.a (?). So I didn't try to
recommend the static option to our colleague (potentially asking for more
trouble).
By the way: I also rember errors due to switches like -xW, -xN. But I
believe (or rather hope) that the Intel people have fixed those bugs.
The current version (ifort 8.1) even compiles pmemd (at least all tests
and benchmarks run through).
