[AMBER] Building pmemd.cuda.MPI with NCCL support

While trying to build pmemd.cuda.MPI with NCCL support the Amber21.pdf
manual says to do this to enable NCCL:

git clone https://github.com/NVIDIA/nccl.git
cd nccl
git checkout 'git tag | tail -n1'
make src.build CUDA_HOME=/path_to_cuda_toolkit/

The first git works fine. However, for

git checkout 'git tag | tail -n1'

I get the following error:

fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git

Does this mean I do not need to do that git or is there some kind of error
in my following the instructions?

Thanks.

Jim
