hi, your question is not silly at all.
You either follow Chris solution, or below
1. download all the related updates (and and copy $AMBERHOME)from the
website: http://ambermd.org/bugfixes.html
2. Apply the update by
./update_amber --apply update.1
and so on for other updates. The order of files does matter (update.1 -->
update.2 --> ...)
