Hi Fabian,
In the VMD main menu, go to
Graphics —> Representations
Below the ‘Selected Atoms’ box, you’ll see 4 tabs. Click on the ‘Periodicity’ tab and click on all the 6 boxes for periodic images.
Hopefully that’ll do what you intended.
Btw, VMD has a mailing list too
http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/vmd/mailing_list/ in case you have future doubts about VMD usage.
