Another thing that is always worth trying on the GPU code IMO is to run the
simulation on CPUs. Often enough, you will see a problem that has a more
informative error message.
This way, if the CPU code works, then you have stronger evidence that there
might be a bug in the GPU code that your system happened to trip. If the
CPU crashes as well, the issue is more likely your setup.
