Hi,

First, during configure did you see a message like this:

Checking for libbz2: OK

If not, then bzlib should be disabled and your config.h file should contain:

BZLIB=

and not:

BZLIB=-lbz2

Last, if you want bzip2 support you need to make sure you have the
development headers and libraries for bzip2 installed, not just bzip2.
On Fedora Core 17 for example, the necessary package is bzip2-devel.
