Did you actually run
file `which gcc`
or are you just saying it's 64-bit because the processor is x86_64
architecture? You can compile 32-bit binaries on 64-bit machines, and last
time I had checked (which was awhile ago, admittedly), FINK was stuck in
32-bit world.
