Did you ask for a traceback? That should usually tell you exactly where
the code was when the bus error occurred.

Well, that option is just left over from earlier days when we had HP
compilers to test. Unfortunately, I don't think any Amber developers
still have access to such an environment. Since you have gdb, do you
also have gcc/gfortran? That (or some other compiler) might be a useful
alternative.
