AMBER: Problems with AMBER8 on 32-bit FC6

Hi All,

I am having troubles compiling a serial version of AMBER8 on a 64-bit
Pentium D running a 32-bit version of Fedora Core 6. Although after I
configure AMBER like I have on other intel boxes (configure -static -ifort,
sometimes with -p4 but it doesnt seem to help in this case), I cannot seem
to get AMBER8 working on this exact setup. Even after doing "make serial" I
get a line at the end (like usual) that says:

============= make msg =========================
  Installation of Amber8 (serial) is complete at Mon Apr 23 11:24:42 MST
2007.
============= end make msg ======================

But if I try to run xleap I get the following error messages:

============= error msg =========================
  Wcl Error: WcWidgetCreation(xaLeap) - Failed
    Problem: No children could be created from Xrm database.
    Possible: Resource file not found
                user environment:
                        XENVIRONMENT is not set,
                        XAPPLRESDIR not terminated with '/'
                user environment or installation:
                        $XENVIRONMENT/XaLeap does not exist.
    Possible: top level widget in resource file not named 'xaLeap'
 Error: Shell widget xaLeap has zero width and/or height
============= end error msg ======================

Has anyone had any experience compiling AMBER8 or 9 on a 32-bit OS that is
running on a 64-bit architecture, particularly with FC6, and even better if
its an Pentium D? If so, please let me know what compilers and options
worked best for you.

Many thanks in advance,
