Well, this is easy enough to fix for Amber 10, and I suppose we could make a
gigantic patch file for Amber 9; but the path workaround sounds OK for now.
Of course, we always should have used a bit of indirection here [writing
"$(MAKE)" instead of "make"], but we didn't appreciate the problems that arose
with BSD....
